Extra, Extra! Olive Oil Helps Your Body Absorb Lycopene in Tomatoes!

It’s tomato month at The Olive Press, and we’re happy to report that your taste buds aren’t the only ones who will thank you, your heart will too! Of course we all know that tomatoes are good for us, but did you know they are even more effective when paired with olive oil? Good news right? We think so!

Tomatoes are rich in Lycopene, which leads to positive health and may help prevent disease, like cancer and heart disease. Of course our bodies don’t produce it so we need to consume it from eating the right foods, and in the right ways!

Lycopene is a carotenoid and is fat soluble, which means it is better absorbed when paired with oil! Cooking tomatoes in olive oil actually delivers lycopene to your body most efficiently, but topping fresh tomatoes with olive oil will dramatically increase your body’s ability to absorb this phytonutrient!
